Ocarina of Time series

For this project, I had to re-interpret the look/feel of a video game (The Ocarina of Time). I chose to retell and condense the story of how Link collects all three spiritual stones in the beginning of the game. This was the most fun I've ever had with linoleum cuts.

  1. I love this. It's hard for me to make super cute things without them being cheesy (these AREN'T cheesy). These are not only cute but they have a sincerity to them as well. great job

  7. You really gave this great childhood game a lot of justice. Wow! Seriously, this (and the rest of your work here) is phenomenal. :D

  8. I'm in love with this, really, hope you don't mind me printing it and putting it together like a fairy tale that one day I will tell to my kids *_*

  9. Are they actual hand-made prints? I'd definitely consider buying an actual hand made print.

Anyhow, GREAT job. They really look incredible. (followed a link here from Kotaku).

  11. Yes! Any way I can download hi-res versions of these for output? I have two small boys that would LOVE to have these hanging in their room! Awesome work!

  12. These drawings are excellent, with a very quirky looking art style and all. Are there any plans to retell the second half of the game's story, the part with the sages and medallions? Because I'd love to see that.

  14. Why does Link's sword have a blue hilt? At these points in the game he hasn't even found the master sword. He's still running around with the little Kokiri sword. And also, if he has the Hylian shield, he should only be able to duck with it, not actually hold it up and use it. Sry, Zelda purist here.

  15. Thanks, Anonymous!
If you look even closer you'll notice that Link is holding a blue ocarina in the Goron image, which I'm sure you know he shouldn't have yet. At this point in the game Link still only has Saria's ocarina.
Also, Link is wielding his sword with his right hand while fighting Gohma.
I'm sure you can find more inconsistencies if you keep looking!

  16. This is awesome! It would be so cool to see this as a real children's book! My two-year-old son came running across the room to see them!

  18. Whoa whoa whoa. Link can't acquire the Hylian Shield let alone wield it against Queen Gogoma.

  19. Thanks Miggz,
I addressed this in an earlier comment. In the game, Link also doesn't have the Ocarina of Time nor the master sword yet (which he does here). He also shouldn't be right-handed while fighting Gohma. I realize there are inconsistencies in these pieces. I also think the Hylian shield just looks cooler than the Deku shield would have.

that is simply amazing. i love linoleum cuts, although i don't love making them, and to use that for zelda is such a good idea. it really helps give it an old feel as though this happened ages ago. i've already set these as my desktop background.

  21. Thanks northernwarrior!
Linoleum cuts are great, but I also don't particularly like making them. I've had too many mishaps for that!

  23. I found these in a roundabout way… Just wanted to comment, they are beautifully done. Ocarina of Time is one of my all-time favorite games, and the one which launched me deeper into the series when I was young. You did it justice. :)
